Alsace, a geographically unique region bordering Germany, produces predominantly white wines showcasing a fascinating interplay of Germanic and French influences. The region benefits from a cool, continental climate and diverse terroir, contributing to the distinct character of its wines. The "noble" grapes are Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat, typically vinified dry, though some vendanges tardives (late harvest) and sélection de grains nobles (noble rot) wines offer exceptional sweetness and concentration. 

Alsace Riesling exhibits pronounced aromatics of citrus, petrol, and floral notes, coupled with high acidity and a dry, steely structure. Gewürztraminer offers intense aromas of lychee, rose, and spice, while Pinot Gris displays riper fruit characters and a richer texture. Pinot Blanc is grown for typically light and refreshing still and sparkling wines.
