Producer Description
This domaine is run by Christophe and his charming wife Yuka, a talented Japanese chef.
They own and farm some of the finest sites around Ribeauvillé and Hunawihr, including the Grand Cru Rosacker and Grand Cru Osterberg (source of the fabled Clos St Hune and Cuvée Emile).
They were one of the first domaines in Alsace to convert to biodynamic viticulture in 1999. Christophe believes in minimum intervention, and allowing the soil to express the minerality of each terroir. These wines are super gastronomical, pure fruit, sharp acidity and lovely minerality.
The Alsatian vineyard is located in the Rhine basin, one of the most complex geological regions in Europe. This specificity allows it to claim one of the greatest diversities of wine-growing terroirs in the world! The Christophe Mittnacht estate is located in Hunawihr, a small wine-growing village nestled in the center of Alsace, between Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr, 12 km north of Colmar . The town is located on a geological field composed mainly of Muschelkalk in the subsoil, shelled limestone dating back about 2.5 million years, and covered with marl-limestone soil with a strong presence of clay. This pedological profile can be described as deep and fresh. Wines from this type of terroir generally have a certain aromatic restraint, have a rather fleshy and complex structure, and are taut with an omnipresent minerality. At the Christophe Mittnacht estate , these characteristics are intensified by the biodynamic work carried out for almost fifteen years.
