Côtes du Rhône Red
Beautiful cherry red color with purplish reflections. Clear and shiny. The nose is immediately greedy, flattering, generous. Small crunchy red fruits dominate. We also perceive something like sweetness, something creamy, almost sweet. When swirled, candied cherries, morello cherries and raspberry cream make the wine very seductive. The palate does not disappoint, it is supple and delectable. It is a beautiful continuity with the nose. There is a lot of sweetness, roundness without any aggressiveness despite the presence of nice, well-controlled tannins. Good length. A wine of immediate pleasure, to savor with summer cuisine or a filet mignon with prunes or even a shoulder of lamb with herb jus. Apogee: 1 to 3 years to take full advantage of its charm.
Resulting from the succession of three generations, our Côtes du Rhône are largely from old vines, some of which are more than eighty years old.
We make small returns. For this, some of our plots are grassed every other row to optimize the concentration of the grapes. The wines are marketed after one year of ageing.
Producer Description
Domaine de l’Espigouette has now become an impeccable source of delicious wines which offer very good value. Rendements are kept low, 30-39hl/ha, and they have some 32 hectares including 1.5 hectares in Gigondas. A big new temperature controlled chai was finished just in time for the 2012 vintage. This enables them to have a single bottling for each wine and then to store in perfect conditions. The average age of the vines is not less than 40 years old. Vinification is traditional, in a mix of a little stainless steel and cement vats. Elevage is then in foudres.
These are delicious, full-flavoured, old-fashioned, rich and spicy wines.
